Our Mission and Vision
At Montrose Pride, our mission is to bring people together through events and community action that help build a more inclusive future for LGBTQIA2S+ folks in Montrose. We work to raise awareness about the unique challenges and amazing contributions of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and we celebrate diversity by promoting inclusion for everyone—no matter their sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or background.
Our events highlight and honor LGBTQIA2S+ culture while also advocating for equal rights and representation, creating a more inclusive, culturally educated, and welcoming Montrose—achieved through vibrant Pride Festivals, educational programs, safe spaces, and year-round engagement. Just as importantly, we support our community by sharing resources, building partnerships, and making sure marginalized voices are heard and uplifted.
Our Values
Empowering Rural Queer Communities
At Montrose Pride, our values shape how we show up for the community every day. We believe in inclusivity by celebrating the full diversity of LGBTQIA2S+ identities and making sure everyone feels welcome and respected. We’re dedicated to community empowerment, offering resources, education, and safe spaces where people can truly belong. Advocacy for equity drives us to push for fairness and justice, especially in the unique context of rural life. We also honor cultural connection by uplifting rural and Native LGBTQIA2S+ history and traditions while helping shape a brighter, more inclusive future. And we value self-betterment—encouraging learning, empathy, and growth so that both individuals and the community as a whole can thrive.
Our History
Filling a Need
Montrose Pride began in early 2023 with a simple idea: create space for LGBTQIA2S+ community connection in a town that had zero recurring events. What started with Coffee With Queers, inspired by a similar gathering in a neighboring town, quickly grew into something bigger. By late 2023, community members recognized that Montrose—Colorado’s 30th largest municipality and the second largest on the Western Slope—still lacked its own Pride Festival, even as nearby towns held annual celebrations.
A small steering committee came together, and in 2024, Montrose hosted its first Pride Festival, an event met with overwhelming enthusiasm and support. The success of this milestone made it clear that the community was ready to embrace its own queer identity—and that there was still so much good work to be done.
Building on that momentum, Montrose Pride became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2025, officially bringing Coffee With Queers under its umbrella, adding Cocktails With Queers for adults, and laying the groundwork for future advocacy and educational programming.
Looking ahead, Montrose Pride is committed to expanding its impact through new programs, deeper partnerships, and continued celebration of LGBTQIA2S+ culture—ensuring we grow stronger each year.
